CommentLuv! What on earth is that? And why should I care?!
It seems that I’ve been under a rock for ten years when it comes to the magical world of site commenting and the SEO benefits of doing so. What do I mean? Well seemingly I’ve missed this HUGELY Successful plugin called CommentLuv which was written by a lovely chap by the name of Andy Bailey. It achieved nearly 1 Million downloads in all time and if you Google CommentLuv you’ll see a flurry of posts about it.
What does it do you ask?… simple really! When you leave a comment on a site, the plugin (optionally) adds a link to your last blog post (by way of a backlink).
What’s the point?.. good question! If your site users get a link back to their own site (which inevitably is selling something or trying to build brand/profile awareness) each time they comment then they are incentivised to do so and therefore you benefit because your blog comments take off!
Surely this opens you to spam?… No not really. If you use it in conjunction with plugins such as Akismet then comment Spam should be about the same level it alway it. The plugin does have some level of filtering in it I believe but that’ll get better soon….
Why? Because as of yesterday I became the new developer of the plugin in conjunction with Elegant Marketplace. Some very new exciting features coming soon!
Sadly Andy Bailey has MS and is unable to carry on development but Andrew Palmer, owner of Elegant Marketplace, happens to be his uncle and so has agreed to take on the ongoing development and support of the plugin. You can read the press release here!
